Cincinnati Falls to Houston on Wednesday

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell 63-39 to Houston inside Fifth Third Arena on Wednesday.
 
Cincinnati is now 7-12 overall, 0-6 in the AAC on the season.
 
Redshirt sophomore Taziah Jenks finished with a season-high 13 points behind 9-12 from the free throw line, in addition to three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in 22 minutes. The 13 points is a Cincinnati-high and one point shy of her career-high.
 
Sophomore forward Clarissa Craig turned in four points with tough finishes in the paint to halt a 7-0 Houston run that opened the contest. Senior forward Jadyn Scott connected on a jumpshot from the low corner to cut the deficit to 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.
 
A fast break finish from junior guard Jillian Hayes trimmed the lead with 2:58 remaining before the first half. Cincinnati turned in eight points off seven Houston turnovers, but trailed at the break.
 
The Bearcats closed out the third quarter on an 8-0 run over the final 2:55 minutes of the period, sparked by an and-one finish from Jenks.
 
Junior forward/center Malea Williams was responsible for four straight points off an assist and shot from the top of the key that trimmed the deficit to 14 before Houston responded with another run in the fourth quarter that extend their lead and kept Cincinnati at arm's length for the remainder of the night.
 
Cincinnati converted on 14-19 for 73.7 percent from the free throw line, its fifth straight game connecting on at least 70.0 percent from the line. The Bearcats also finished with 20 bench points, their 13th game hitting the mark this season.
 
Cincinnati remains home to host Wichita State in the second game of the season series on Saturday, Jan 28 at 2 p.m. ET.
