Bearcats Fall to Kentucky

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Kentucky in their final home dual meet of the season. Both teams fell short inside the Keating Aquatic Center on Friday.

CINCINNATI— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Kentucky in their final home dual meet of the season. Both teams fell short inside the Keating Aquatic Center on Friday.
 
The Bearcats took home five event wins throughout the meet, including fifth-year senior Conner Funke sweeping both men's breaststroke events.
 
Funke first won the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.51 and followed that up with a photo-finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, winning by three-tenths of a second with a time of 2:03.14.
 
Freshman Grace Gavin picked up her fifth event win of the year by winning the women's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.84.
 
Junior Hunter Gubeno won his team-leading 14th individual event win after claiming first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.19. He also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke clocking in at 49.41 seconds.
 
On the diving side, Sophomore Will Claus had a meet to remember. He broke the 300-point mark in both the men's three-meter dive (332.85) and the one-meter dive (309.98). Both marks are season best and he placed second overall in each event.
 
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Jessica Davis, freshmen Joleigh Crye, Kaylee Nagel and Meghan Fleury took home first place, finishing with a time of 1:35.00.
 
The UC women fell to No. 14 ranked Kentucky women 210-85 and the UC men fell to the Wildcat men 180-117.

The Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow as they will make the short trip to Louisville, K.y., to take on the Cardinals in their final dual meet of the season. Events will begin at 12 p.m ET. and will be streamed on the ACCN networked on ESPN.
