CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team travels to close out its season series with Temple inside Liacouras Center on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Saturday marks the third of five road games in February.
It will be the 18th meeting between the conference opponents. Cincinnati trails in the all-time series 11-6 and 6-3 in Philadelphia. The Bearcats are looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Owls after dropping the first meeting of the season 77-73 at home on Jan. 7, 2023.
Freshman A'riel Jackson turned in a career-high 19 points on 5-9 from the field and 8-9 from the free throw line, in addition to two assists and two rebounds in 26 minutes in the earlier contest. The 19 points ties the most by a freshman since Jillian Hayes had 20 vs. Temple on Jan. 13, 2020. Hayes also neared a double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Temple and Cincinnati both excel at the free throw line. Temple ranks third in the conference with a 72.3 percent from the line, while Cincinnati is fourth at 70.9 percent. The Bearcats' free throw percentage has increased to 77.1 percent on 111-144 since the start of conference.
Cincinnati fell late 60-57 to UCF inside Fifth Third Arena on Feb. 8. Junior guard Jillian Hayes recorded her seventh double-double of the season, 10th of her career, with 17 points and 13 rebounds. It marks her second double-double in the last three games. Redshirt sophomore forward Taziah Jenks finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high four steals, while senior guard Mya Jackson posted seven points behind a career-high five free throws made. Cincinnati finished 21-24 for 87.5 percent from the free throw line, its third game with 20-plus made this season. The shot-blocking tandem of Hayes and junior forward/center Malea Williams combined for all five blocks against the Knights. The Bearcats have now recorded at least five blocks in 11 games.
The Bearcats a remain tough defensive assignment for opponents all season. Cincinnati leads the conference and ranks 21st nationally with 4.8 blocks per game, while Hayes has recorded a conference-best 35 blocks this season. The Bearcats are also forcing 7.9 steals and 17.1 turnovers per game.
Temple is 10-13, 5-6 in the AAC in its first season under head coach Diane Richardson. The Owls are averaging 66.5 points per game and allowing 64.0 points per game at home. Temple is 7-4 at home this season. Senior guard Aleah Nelson leads the Owls with 15.5 points and 4.1 assists in a conference-high 37.0 minutes per game. She has scored in double-figures in each of the last seven games.
