CINCINNATI – Just a week away from Opening Day, the University of Cincinnati baseball team saw 10 student-athletes highlighted as top prospects and impact freshmen by D1Baseball in the organization's conference preview.
Five Bearcats were represented in the American Athletic Conference prospect ranking for the upcoming 2023 MLB Draft, headlined by junior outfielder Cole Harting coming in at No. 5. Harting batted .313 (67-for-214) with nine doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 47 RBI in 2022.
Redshirt junior pitcher Alex Shea (No. 16), senior pitcher Mitch White (No. 18), sophomore pitcher Garrett Harker (No. 23) and redshirt junior infielder Ryan Nicholson (No. 24) also garnered recognition as draft-eligible players this spring. UC's five prospects for the 2023 MLB Draft were the second-most on the list.
In addition, UC had two student-athletes recognized on the top prospect list for the 2024 MLB Draft with sophomore pitcher/first baseman Tommy O'Connor coming in at No. 16, followed by junior pitcher Conner Linn at No. 19.
Lastly, a trio of Bearcats were selected to D1Baseball's impact freshmen list: infielder Marcus Smith (No. 15), pitcher Chase Horst (No. 22) and infielder Kyle Schupmann (No. 25).

Cincinnati will open the season with a four-game series against Georgia State on Feb. 17-19 in Atlanta, Ga.
