Bearcats Wrap Up Day One of the AAC Championships; Givens Qualifies For NCAA Diving Zones

DALLAS, Texas— Freshman diver Alex Givens qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones as the University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the opening day of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Dallas, Texas on Monday.

DALLAS, Texas— Freshman diver Alex Givens qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones as the University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the opening day of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Dallas on Monday.
 
At the end of day one, the Cincinnati men's team leads SMU 54 to 53 behind a big day in the men's 3-meter board diving from Givens.
 
"We are off to a great start to our championship meet, with Alex posting a personal best in his 3-meter board and qualifying for the NCAA Diving Zones, head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle said. "We have a very young diving team here competing and it is great to see a strong start today."
 
The Denver, N.C. native, Givens, scored a personal best 320.85 points and was in third place at the end of the preliminary round.  He joins teammates sophomore Will Claus (3-meter and 1-meter) and freshman Preston Landolt (1-meter) as the only Bearcats divers to qualify for the NCAA Diving Zones.
 
In the 3-meter board finals, Givens would finish fourth overall with 297.80 points and scored 15 points for the men in the team standings. Landolt placed fifth, scoring 290.20 points, while Claus came in sixth with 286.95. Rounding the Bearcat men was senior Josh Knapke in seventh with 245.10 points.
 
In the women's 1-meter junior, Elizabeth Noble finished 26th overall, scoring 195.15 points. The Cincinnati women's team did not score any points toward the team standings.

Day two of the AAC Championships will be another day of diving with the men's 1-meter board and women's 3-meter board events. Preliminary rounds will begin at 12 p.m. ET, followed by the final rounds beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Both rounds will be streamed on ESPN+.
