CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell 68-57 to East Carolina inside Fifth Third Arena on Wednesday.
Senior guard Caitlyn Wilson finished with 16 points and a career-high seven rebounds, while senior guard Mya Jackson added her 16th double-digit scoring game of the season with 15 points.
Junior guard Jillian Hayes finished with her eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman A'riel Jackson dished out a career-high five assists.
Wilson and Mya Jackson each connected from behind the arc to spark an early 12-5 lead before the Pirates responded with a 7-0 spurt to tie the game at 12 at the first media timeout.
Trailing by five early in the second quarter, Wilson turned in five straight points to tie the game at 20 with 7:22 left before the half.
The Bearcats went on a 10-0 run, while holding their opponent scoreless over the final 5:44 minutes to make their lead 30-24 at the half.
Cincinnati went on to score five straight out the half to extend its run to 15-0 halfway through the third quarter, its second longest run of the season.
A drive and finish by junior forward/center Malea Williams and a pair of free throws from sophomore forward/center Clarissa Craig halted a Pirates' run and moved the margin to 41-33 at the 3:18-minute mark of the third quarter.
Mya Jackson sliced through the press and split a pair of defenders to make it 46-42 heading into the final period.
Nine straight points from Pirates' Danae McNeal provided the visitors a 53-50 lead at the fourth quarter media timeout. The Pirates extended their lead to 63-50 and continued to maintain the momentum for the remainder of the contest.
Cincinnati hosts Tulane inside Fifth Third Arena on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. ET.
