CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell 65-54 to Tulane inside Fifth Third Arena on Saturday.
 
Cincinnati is now 9-17 overall, 2-11 in the AAC on the season.
 
Senior guard Mya Jackson finished with a team-high 15 points, her 17th double-digit scoring affair of the season. Junior guard Jillian Hayes added eight points and 15 rebounds, her ninth game with 10-plus rebounds this season. The 15 rebounds are the most by a Bearcat this season.
 
Each team's defense dominated the flow of the game early to make the score 5-2 at the first media timeout. Mya Jackson turned in six of the first eight points to trim the lead to 9-8 at the 3:07-minute mark in the first quarter. Redshirt sophomore Taziah Jenks connected with senior forward Jadyn Scott for a jump shot at the top of the key to cut the deficit to 17-12 at the end of the initial period.  
 
Four straight points from freshman guard A'riel Jackson provided the Bearcats with their first lead of the game at 20-19 at the halfway point of the second quarter.
 
The Bearcats held their visitors without a field goal for a 4:50-minute stretch and senior guard Caitlyn Wilson knocked down a three from behind the arc to take a 28-26 lead with 1:01 minutes left before the break. The Green Wave scored the final four points of the first half to command a 30-28 heading into the locker room.
 
Cincinnati pulled down 10 offensive rebounds for seven second-chance points in the first half. The Bearcats finished with 17 offensive rebounds in the game, tied for the third-most this season.
 
The Green Wave went on a 6-0 run over the first 1:39 minutes out of the locker room to stretch their advantage to 36-28 and force a timeout. Sophomore guard Braylyn Milton drove and finished a scoop and-one and Wilson found junior forward/center Malea Williams to halt the run and trim the deficit back to one possession at 38-36.
 
Trailing 54-41 heading into the final quarter, the Bearcats held the Green Wave without a field goal over the first five minutes of the period and cut the deficit to 54-48 on Wilson's second three of the afternoon.
 
A steal and fast-break finish from Mya Jackson cut the deficit to four with two minutes left in regulation. Tulane scored eight of the final nine points of the contest for the eventual final.
 
The Bearcats finished with a season-low eight turnovers.
 
Cincinnati will hit the road for a two-game road stint starting with Memphis inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
