ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning to take down Georgia State, 9-4, in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex in Atlanta.
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended with GSU leading UC 3-2 after seven innings, pending further review.
For the Bearcats (1-1), freshman left-handed pitcher Chase Horst worked four innings in his Bearcat debut, allowed one run on two hits and struck out five batters with three walks. Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Alex Shea (1-0) struck out four batters in three innings of work and earned the win.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson went 3-for-3 with a homerun, two RBI, a walk and two runs scored. He made his 100th career start in game one of the twin bill.
Redshirt junior infielder Kameron Guidry went 1-for-3 with a double and walk while sophomore designated hitter Tommy O'Connor notched his first collegiate hit – an RBI single.

Cincinnati fell behind in the first inning when Georgia State plated an early run. The Panthers' Cameron Jones notched a leadoff triple and came across after a sacrifice fly.
Nicholson tied the game with a solo shot to right field in the top of the fourth inning but with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Georgia State reclaimed the lead on a wild pitch, 2-1.
The Bearcats then sent 12 batters to the plate and exploded for eight runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning.
Nicholson led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Junior outfielder Cole Harting reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a bases-loaded walk by freshman Kyle Schupmann.
Sophomore infielder Lauden Brooks followed with a bases-loaded walk to score Guidry. After sophomore Kerrington Cross reached on a fielding error that scored two runs, O'Connor drove in the first run of his career with a single through the right side to make it 6-2.
Redshirt junior catcher Alec Jones added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Cross. Nicholson drove in his second run of the game with a single up the middle, with O'Connor crossing the plate. Harting followed with a double down the right field line to extend the lead to 9-2.
