CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball program will send three student-athletes to the 2023 USA Women's National Team Open Program.
Abby Walker, Carly Glendinning and Avry Tatum will represent the Bearcats at the tryout from Feb. 24-26 at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
"The USA Open Program is such a special and unique opportunity for our players," said head coach Molly Alvey. "The weekend is a tremendous confidence builder and is an opportunity to open their eyes to volleyball on the international level. My hope is that our athletes grow as a person and player from their experiences at this event. Each will return with a contagious excitement about volleyball to share with their teammates."
The Open Program is part of the selection process for the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. In 2023, members of the U.S. Women's National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, Paris Olympic Qualifier, Pan American Cup and NORCECA Continental Championship.
The three-day event includes skill-specific drills and activities as well as match play throughout the weekend.
Walker, a middle blocker from Cambridge, Ohio, started and played in every match (30) and set (112) as a sophomore. She averaged 2.51 kills and 0.82 blocks per set and ranked ninth in the AAC in hitting percentage (.310). She was named Second Team All-AAC for the second consecutive season.
Glendinning, an outside hitter from Lake St. Louis, Mo., had a dominant freshman campaign where she earned Second Team All-AAC honors. She averaged 2.97 kills, 1.26 digs and 0.30 blocks per set and registered 16 double-digit kill performances.
Tatum, an opposite from Cardiff, Calif., played in 86 sets across 24 matches as a freshman. She averaged 2.50 kills and 0.43 blocks per set and had 12 matches with 10-plus kills, including seven in conference play.
