MEMPHIS – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team fell 64-53 to Memphis inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Wednesday.
 
Cincinnati is now 9-18 overall, 2-12 in the AAC on the season.
 
Sophomore forward/center Clarissa Craig finished with a team-high 13 points on 6-9 from the field, while junior guard Jillian Hayes turned in her third double-double over the last five games with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Dais'Ja Trotter finished with 10 points, her second double-digit scoring game of the season, and four rebounds in a career-high 23 minutes off the bench.
 
Craig scored the Bearcats' first three points on a deep post move and the front end of a pair of free throws, but the Bearcats trailed 10-3 at the first quarter media timeout.
 
A step-back three from senior guard Dais'Ja Trotter trimmed the deficit to 10-6 before the Tigers turned in eight of the final nine points in the period to take a 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Junior forward/center Malea Williams connected on a fade away shot in the post to make it 28-20 at the halfway point of the second quarter. The Bearcats closed out the frame on a 5-0 run and held their hosts scoreless for the final 4:11 minutes to head into the half down 34-27.
 
Seven straight points from Trotter in the early minutes out of the locker room cut the margin to 39-36. Trailing 39-31, the Bearcats went on a 7-2 run that was sparked by an and-one finish from Craig to make it a one-possession game at 41-38 with 5:39 minutes left in the third quarter.
 
Williams knocked down a jump shot from the corner to cut it to 46-44 late in the period. After the two teams continued to trade momentum to start the fourth quarter, Jackson connected with Hayes in the low post to make it 51-49 with 5:55 minutes remaining in regulation. The Tigers answered back with an 8-2 spurt to extend their lead and hold it to the eventual final.
 
The Bearcats were active on the boards with 14 offensive rebounds, their 24th game with 10-plus offensive rebounds this season.
 
Cincinnati remains on the road this week when the Bearcats travel to take on UCF inside Addition Financial Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
