YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Cincinnati women's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 14-11 win at Youngstown State at the Watson and Tressel Training Site on Wednesday.

The Bearcats were led by junior midfielder Ava Goeller, who scored five goals, and freshman Camryn Callaghan, who added a hat trick despite being heavily-guarded by the Penguins following her school-record-tying eight-goal match against Marquette on Sunday.

Junior attacker Elizabeth Murphy added two goals and two assists, and sophomore attacker Kylie Gioia scored two goals.

Cincinnati started strong with five goals in the first quarter, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage until the Penguins scored a goal right before the second quarter.

Youngstown State outscored UC, 3-2, in the second quarter as the Penguins held in a 4-2 lead in draw controls.

Cincinnati led 7-4 at halftime and pulled away in the second half with freshman Mia Federovich opening the scoring after the break with her first collegiate goal and Goeller's score giving UC a 10-5 lead.

YSU scored five goals in the fourth period, and pulled within 3, with three minutes left, but junior midfielder Lauren Ottensmeyer's goal with 1:57 left proved to be the final dagger that gave UC a 14-10 lead with two minutes left.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Lapp was outstanding between the pipes, finishing with a season-high 12 saves for the Bearcats.
