DORADO, P.R. -- Freshman Ryan Ford's career-low 65 put him in first place after the opening round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate, and the Cincinnati team is also second overall.

Ford's 7-under tally is the best by a Bearcat this season. It was the lowest round since Clay Amlung's school-record 64 at the Colleton River Collegiate on March 8, 2022. Ford also had an eagle on the 510-yard No. 9 hole, while Wyatt Plattner had one on the sixth and Rylan Wotherspoon did so on No. 14.

"Great start by this group today," head coach Doug Martin said. "We had a great plan on attacking this course, and Players 1-6 executed extremely well. Our depth is beginning to surface, and all six shot 2-under or better today. It will be very important to get off to a quick start tomorrow and build on today."

Wotherspoon, Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich and William McDonald are all tied for 18th with a 2-under 70. Plattner, competing individually, is tied for sixth with a 4-under 68.

UC's 13-under 275 trails host UNC Greensboro by two strokes while leading Duke and Virginia by five.

Monday's second round can be followed on Golfstat.
