CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati freshman men's golfer Ryan Ford has been named the AAC's Men's Golfer of the Week following his record-setting performance in Puerto Rico.

Ford opened the spring with a school-record, 15-under 201 to finish second at the Dorado Beach Collegiate, an event that featured three top-40 opponents, including No. 2 Auburn and No. 12 Virginia. He paced a now-No. 25 UC squad that won its third tournament, its most since 1997-98, while the team's 44-under 820 marked another school record.  His 65 to start was one stroke off the school record. He had 17 birdies and an eagle to help him even finish ahead of Golfstat's No. 12 Ben James of Virginia.

Ford, a native of Westfield, Indiana, was two strokes shy of being UC's first freshman champ since 2013. His best previous start was 21st to open the season, and the 201 was 19 strokes better than his previous career-low. He now has a 73.43 stroke average.

The Bearcats will look to ride the momentum into next week's Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C., which runs Monday-Tuesday.
