CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team will travel to Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. at Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond, Ky.
Last time out, the Bearcats swept a four-game series from North Alabama, 9-0 (7), 9-8, 2-1 (8) and 8-1 (7). It marked UC's first four-game sweep since May 20-22, 2021 against Tulane.
Graduate student right-handed pitcher Dylan Brosky pitched a 7-inning complete-game shutout in game one with two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. He was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the performance.
UC rallied for a 2-1 walk-off win in game three of the series. Redshirt junior Alec Jones drilled an RBI single to the pitcher to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. He earned a spot on the AAC weekly honor roll after batting .571 (4-for-7) with two runs, a double, a home run and three runs driven in through three games.
Jones is hitting .333 (6-for-18) in six starts. He is tied for first on the team in walks (7) with freshmen Landyn Vidourek and Kyle Schupmann.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson has a .316 average in 10 starts (12-for-38) with three home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored. He leads the club in hits (12), home runs (3), doubles (3) and slugging percentage (.684).
After stealing just two bases in its first eight games, Cincinnati stole 13 bases in four games against North Alabama. The Bearcats swiped five bases in both game two and game three.
Cincinnati has a team batting average of .229 through 12 games. The Bearcats have drawn 67 walks – good for first in the conference and 33rd in the nation.
On the mound, Brosky (1-0, 2.45) has started two games and leads the club in innings pitched (14.2) and strikeouts (13). Junior Chase Hopewell (0-1, 5.40) has started three games and is second on the staff in innings pitched (13.1) and strikeouts (11). Senior Jackson Murphy (2-1, 9.45) leads the team in wins (2) and appearances (5).
Cincinnati and EKU have met 62 times, with the Colonels holding a 33-29 lead in the all-time series. The Bearcats have won eight straight against the Colonels dating back to the 1997 season.
