CINCINNATI  –  Cincinnati football head coach Scott Satterfield announced on Wednesday the hires of Brad Glenn, Nate Fuqua and Cortney Braswell.

Glenn will serve as offensive coordinator and coach wide receivers. Josh Stepp will move to coach the tight ends. He was originally hired to coach the receivers.

Fuqua will serve as the co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. Braswell will coach the inside linebackers.

Glenn comes to the Bearcats from Virginia Tech, where he served as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Hokies in 2022. He previously worked with Satterfield at Appalachian State and served as the offensive coordinator for some record-breaking offenses at Georgia State from 2019 to 2021.

"I have known Brad Glenn for nearly 30 years, and he is one of the top football minds in the business," Satterfield said. "Brad could coach any position, but I believe his experience coordinating passing games makes him a perfect fit to coach wide receivers for us in addition to his coordinator duties. Brad is a relentless recruiter and a proven winner, and I'm excited to welcome he and his family to Cincinnati."

Fuqua comes from Georgia State, where he was the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach the last six seasons. He helped GSU to four bowl berths and guided some outstanding Panthers' defenses, including squads that ranked in the Top 10 in the FBS in sacks and turnovers forced in 2020. He also spent 12 seasons on the staff at his alma mater, Wofford, where he was a two-time All-America nose tackle.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Nate Fuqua to our coaching staff," Satterfield said. "He's had great success as a coordinator and he knows the defense we run well. I've known Nate since his days as an All-American defensive tackle at Wofford. He wouldn't be outworked then, and he won't be outworked now. That's why I'm excited to have him on our staff."

Braswell joins the Bearcats from Army, where he coached inside linebackers for the last two seasons. A former head high school coach in Georgia and Tennessee, he also coached outside linebackers at Appalachian State in 2020 and served as a defensive quality control coach at Louisville in 2019.

"Cortney Braswell is a rising star in the coaching profession, and I'm excited to welcome him to our staff," Satterfield said. "He knows our defense and he's a perfect fit for our culture. He's had tremendous success as a full-time coach at Army and Appalachian State, and his background as a high school coach makes him one of the best relationship-builders I have been around and an elite recruiter."

Brad Glenn, Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach
Glenn is a 29-year veteran of the coaching ranks who spent the 2022 season as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Virginia Tech following a very successful run as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Georgia State from 2019-21.

Under Glenn's direction, the Panthers averaged a school-record 33.3 points per game in 2020 following a 2019 season in which they set school records for total yards (439.8 ypg) and rushing (241.6 ypg).

In 2021, Glenn's quarterback Darren Grainger threw for 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions, while Georgia State had seven offensive players collect all-conference honors.

GSU's 2020 team was led by quarterback Cornelius Brown IV, who ranked second in the Sun Belt in passing (227.8) and total yards (257.9) and snagged MVP honors at the LendingTree Bowl. The Panthers had six all-conference selections that fall, too.

Led by running back Tra Barnett, who led the Sun Belt with 1,453 yards, GSU finished No. 13 in the country in rushing in Glenn's first year with the Panthers in 2019, and he was nominated for the Broyles Award.

Prior to joining Georgia State, he spent seven seasons as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Western Carolina under then-head coach Mark Speir – who is now the chief of staff at Cincinnati. In his last five seasons at Western Carolina, his quarterback averaged more than 2,400 passing yards and 600 rushing yards. He coached WCU's all-time leading passer Troy Mitchell 2016 FCS National Freshman of the Year Tyrie Adams.

Glenn worked with Satterfield on the Appalachian State staff from 2005 to 2008, winning three straight FCS national titles while coaching slot receivers and tight ends. When Satterfield left to coach at Toledo, Glenn replaced him as the Mountaineers quarterbacks coach in 2009 and coached two-time Walter Payton Award (FCS player of the year) winner Armanti Edwards.

Nate Fuqua, Co-Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebackers
Fuqua (pronounced FEW-quay) served as the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach at Georgia State for six seasons, from 2017 to 2022. He led some of the top defenses in Panthers' history, including a 2021 squad that set school records with 38 sacks and 92 TFLs.

Georgia State's run defense, in particular, has been stout in recent years, ranking second in the Sun Belt in rushing yards allowed in both 2020 and 2021.

Also, the Panthers were 11th in the nation with 25 turnovers forced in 2022.

Among the highlights during Fuqua's time at GSU were a landmark victory over Tennessee in 2019 where his defense held the Vols to just 93 yards rushing, and a LendingTree Bowl victory over Western Kentucky in 2020 where the Panthers held the high-powered Hilltoppers' offense to a season-low 284 yards. Georgia State also held Arkansas State to -3 yards rushing in a win in 2021.

Fuqua was nominated for the Broyles Award in 2017. He coached 24 all-conference players and five Panthers earned pro contracts during his time at GSU.

Before joining Georgia State, Fuqua coached for 12 seasons at his alma mater Wofford. He directed the defense for three seasons, helping lead the Terriers to the FCS quarterfinals in 2016 when Wofford ranked fifth in the nation in total defense (287.2) and sixth in scoring defense (17.1 ppg).

A nose tackle in college, Fuqua was a four-time All-Southern Conference player and two-time All-American for the Terriers, including first-team recognition as a senior in 2002. He was elected to the Wofford College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.

Cortney Braswell, Inside Linebackers Coach
Braswell spent the last two seasons coaching inside linebackers at Army following a year coaching outside linebackers at Appalachian State. He was also a defensive quality control coach on Scott Satterfield's first Louisville team that improved by six wins.

While at Army, Braswell coached the inside linebackers helping lead the Black Knights to a 15-10 mark over two seasons. In 2021, he mentored linebacker Arik Smith, who posted 86 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss en route to the Defender of the Nation Award given to the top defensive player on a service academy in the nation. Smith also was named to the Phil Steele 2021 All-Independent First Team. Another Braswell pupil, Leo Lowin, collected 2022 All-Independent Second Team following his 100-tackle season.

In 2020, Braswell coached outside linebackers for the Mountaineers, helping lead the defensive until to a No. 18 ranking nationally and a 9-3 mark. App State also won the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Regarded as one of the top recruiters in the country, Braswell was named to the AFCA 35 under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute, a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier and future leaders in the coaching profession.

He was the head coach at Ridgeland High School in his hometown of Rossville, Ga., in 2018, following a two-year stint as the head coach at Chattanooga Central High School in 2016 and 2017. He led each of his teams to the state playoffs.

Braswell began his coaching career in 2009 and was a two-time all-state running back at the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn.
