CINCINNATI -- The No. 30 Cincinnati men's golf team is set for its second-straight challenge in the Southeast, this time playing in the two-day Sea Island Collegiate in St. Simons, Island, Ga.
Participating teams in the Monday-Tuesday field include No. 25 Kansas State, No. 37 Ohio State, No. 42 Notre Dame, No. 43 UNC Greensboro, No. 50 Michigan State, Kansas, Minnesota, Memphis, Iowa, Rutgers, Penn State, Toledo.
UC's representatives are Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich, William McDonald, Ryan Ford and Rylan Wotherspoon with Wyatt Plattner competing individually. The Bearcats have been under-par in all seven tournaments, including a school-record 44-under 820 at the Dorado Beach Collegiate after finishing the fall with a then-record 34-under 830 at the Quail River Collegiate.
McDonald became the fourth different Bearcat to lead the team in a tournament with his career-best 7-under 209 and 16th-place finish at the Colleton River Collegiate. Cincinnati was unable to find its footing in the difficult field, but only fell five spots in the Golfstat rankings from what was previously its school-record at No. 25.
Jean continues to hold the top stroke average at 69.15. His last outing was his first time not finishing in the top-15 this season, but he rebounded from a 73 to post consecutive 69s. Gingerich is second on the squad at 69.70. Wotherspoon was an individual at Colleton River and was one stroke above par.
UC previously competed at the Spring 2021 Spartan Collegiate at Sea Island, but it was at the Plantation course rather than this year's Seaside.
