CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team continues a busy stretch with a pair of midweek games against Winthrop, beginning Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. at Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.
 
Last time out, the Bearcats fell to Wofford 12-3 and 5-2 before the series finale was canceled due to inclement weather. 
 
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson batted .400 (4-for-10) in three games with three runs scored, two extra-base hits and an RBI to earn a spot on the AAC weekly honor roll. He went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and RBI against Wofford on Saturday. He belted his fourth home run of the season on a solo shot in the first inning
 
Nicholson has a .333 average (16-for-48) with four home runs, six RBI and 10 runs scored in 13 starts. He leads the club in hits (16), home runs (4), doubles (4) and walks (8). 
 
Junior outfielder Cole Harting is nine RBI away from 100 in his career. He leads the team in RBI (10) and is tied for second in home runs (2) and runs scored (9). Freshman Landyn Vidourek is batting .321 (9-for-28) with eight runs scored, seven RBI and seven walks. 
 
Cincinnati has a team batting average of .226 through 15 games. 
 
On the mound, freshman Chase Horst (1-1, 5.40) has started five games and is first on the staff in innings pitched (16.2) and second in strikeouts (13). He worked 5.2 innings against Wofford on Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three batters with two walks.
 
Redshirt junior Zach Segal (2-0) earned his second win of the season against EKU on March 8. He is tied for first on the team in wins with senior Jackson Murphy (2-1). 
 
Cincinnati and Winthrop met for a four-game series on February 14-15, 2003. The Eagles took three of four from the Bearcats. 

// SCOUTING WINTHROP
Winthrop (8-8) took one of three from East Tennessee State this past weekend in Johnson City, Tenn. The Eagles won game one, 4-3, but fell in the middle game, 11-0, and series finale, 5-4. The Eagles are 7-4 at home this season. 
 
Through 16 games, Winthrop is batting .262 as a team and holds a 6.32 staff ERA, back by a .961 fielding percentage. 
 
Senior Joseph Szvetitz has a .360 average (18-for-50) in 14 starts and leads the team in hits (18) and triples (2). Junior Ramses Cordova is batting .254 (15-for-59) in 16 starts and leads the team in RBI (12), home runs (2) and doubles (4). 
 
The Eagles finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 18-34, including a mark of 11-13 against Big South opponents. Winthrop went 14-16 at home and 4-18 on the road last season.
