MULTIPLE MYELOMA AWARENESS
UC's March 18 contest against Vanderbilt will be dedicated to multiple myeloma awareness, a rare blood cancer affecting assistant coach and former Bearcats goalkeeper Haley Hardy. There will be multiple facets throughout the day spotlighting the cause.
Hardy (formerly Marvine) lettered at Cincinnati over the program's first four years (2008-11), including gaining captain duties. She was hired as Radford's first-ever lacrosse coach in October 2014, leading the program from 2016-21 before returning to Clifton in July 2021 to lead UC's defenders and goalkeepers.
Hardy's family currently has a fundraiser built through the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation website.
POSTGAME CLINIC
TThe Bearcats are hosting a postgame clinic for kids eighth-grade and below once again this season. Registration ended online Wednesday.
LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati is coming off a weekend split, first defeating Central Michigan 9-4 on Friday before a 16-3 defeat at No. 19 Michigan on Sunday in frigid temperatures for both. The 36 shots and plus-18 advantage in that category against the Chippewas both marked the team's second-best of the season.
TAKING OFFENSE
Cincinnati is third in the AAC with 13.6 goals per game (first in shots and shots on goal at 31.9 and 24.3, respectively) after ranking last the previous season at 11.7. Freshman Camryn Callaghan is fifth nationally with 34 goals on the season. The Upper Arlington native had hat tricks in the first eight matchess, the best since Kylie Nause (whose 63 goals marked the single-season record) had nine to begin 2022.
Lauren Ottensmeyer is second on the squad with 20 goals, including three each in the two overtime battles against Ohio State and Davidson. Ava Goeller follows with 19, scoring twice against Michigan after two the previous three combined.
MLKVY MOVING UP
Dani Mlkvy has 71 draw controls this year, which ranks fourth already at the school. Her sister, Sam, has the record of 97 in 2019, and Dani had 81 in her First-Team All-AAC campaign last season to rank third. She has also collected team-highs of 16 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. UC overall leads the AAC with 14.4 per contest.
RUNNING LAPPS IN THE CAGE
Cincinnati goalkeeper Ashley Lapp had a season-high 12 saves in the 14-11 road win over Youngstown State, and has since added nine at Ohio State and eight against Davidson. Her last one against the Wildcats came in the waning seconds of regulation. She also has a 2.55 GAA improvement from last season at Akron.
SCOUTING VANDERBILT
The Commodores lead the all-time series 9-2, with UC's two wins coming in 2017 and 2019. Vanderbilt earned a 23-7 victory in Nashville for the Bearcats' season finale, boasting a 41-24 shots advantage, with an impressive 37 on goal. UC's main highlight was Kylie Nause earning a hat trick in her final collegiate match to set the program single-season goal record at 63.
Vandy is 2-5 this year, which included a season-opening win over No. 25 Colorado before falling to No. 9 Denver. Its only road contest was a 24-7 defeat at Northwestern.
