CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to Marshall, 8-4, on Tuesday night at UC Baseball Stadium.
The Bearcats were led by freshman infielder Kyle Schupmann, who went 1-for-3 with his second home run of the season.
Redshirt junior catcher Alec Jones finished 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Redshirt junior infielder Kameron Guidry put together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
Sophomore Garrett Harker (0-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Cincinnati. Redshirt junior Zach Segal was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
The Bearcats (8-13) scored four runs on six hits and left eight runners on base, while the Herd (10-8) scored eight runs on 11 hits and stranded nine baserunners.

Cincinnati fell behind early when Marshall scored four runs on three hits in the first inning. The Bearcats put a pair of runners in scoring position in the bottom of the second, but the Herd ended the threat with a pair of fly outs. Cincinnati trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Schupmann put the Bearcats on the board with his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the home half of the fourth.
Marshall quickly responded with a homer of its own to right field in the top of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Segal came out of the bullpen and recorded three straight outs, including a pair of strikeouts.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lauden Brooks led off with a single to right field, advanced to third on a base hit and came home to score on a ground out for the lone run of the inning, 6-2. The Herd would get the run back with an RBI fielder's choice in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom half of the inning, JP Sponseller and Josh Hegemann were walked and Brooks was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with two outs. Guidry delivered a two-out, pinch-hit single to left field to score Sponseller and Hegemann.
Marshall homered in the eighth for the eventual 8-4 final score.
