OXFORD, Miss.— The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field team closed out their outdoor season-opening weekend at the Ole Miss Classic on Saturday.
The Bearcats split squads sending the sprinters and field athletes to the Ole Miss Classic, while a select group of distance runners attended the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. More on the Raleigh Relays can be found here.
"I am proud of how the team competed at both meets, head coach Susan Seaton said. "Between multiple event wins, personal bests and UC all-time top 10 marks, Rylee Penn's 1500m record and second fastest time in the NCAA stands out the most."
Junior Anaya Dees had quite the weekend as she won both the women's long jump and triple jump. She recorded an outdoor personal best of 6.01m/19'-8.75" in the long jump and moved to seventh all-time in UC history. Dees also claimed first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.93m/40'6.75", the fourth-best mark in UC history.
Junior Naquille Harris started his outdoor season by winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.35, the second-fastest time in program history. His personal best time is currently ninth in the NCAA East Region.
In the men's shot put, junior Giovanni Gutierrez placed second overall with a throw of 18.05m/59'-2.75". His throw is the second-best throw in outdoor program history and joins former UC thrower Macklin Tudor as the only Bearcats ever to break the 18-meter mark.
Senior Carmen Licht opened her outdoor campaign by winning the women's 800-meter with a time of 2:08.71. Licht's time ranks third in the UC outdoor record book and is 25th in the NCAA East Region.
In the women's high jump, Annika Kinley recorded a new outdoor personal best clearing a height of 1.78m/5'-10". She placed second overall in the event, and her mark is seventh-best in program history.
Graduate student Keco Morrison ran the seventh-fastest outdoor 400-meter (46.85) in UC history to place second overall. His time also ranks 14th in the NCAA East Region.
Vaulting her way to into the UC record book was sophomore Abby Knouff in the women's pole vault. Her mark of 3.93m/12'-10.75" is the 10th-best vault in program history. Knouff placed second overall in the event.
Sophomore Dominique Hall set a new personal record in the men's outdoor long jump with a leap of 7.23m/23'-8.75", earning him second in the event.
Freshman stand-out Jayda Bushay placed second overall in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79, the ninth fastest in UC history.
