CINCINNATI— University of Cincinnati distance runner, senior Rylee Penn, was named Co-American Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Penn earned the distinction for her performance in the 1,500-meter at the Raleigh Relays last weekend as she broke the UC 1,500-meter record with a time of 4:10.13.

She improved on her previous personal best by 23 seconds and placed second overall out of 185 athletes that posted a time in the event.

The Corona, Calif., native's time currently ranks second in the entire nation and leads the AAC.

"Outstanding performance by Rylee and great job by women's distance coach Sarah Anderson preparing her for the performance," head coach Susan Seaton said.

Penn now holds three Cincinnati track and field records: outdoor 1,500-meter, indoor mile (4:34.44) and indoor 3,000-meter (9:12.44). Each has been set this year.

This is the second time in her career that she has garnered the honor and her first during the outdoor season. She was named track athlete of the week during the week of Jan. 31, during the indoor season.

Penn shares this week's honor with UCF junior Latasha Smith.
