Cincinnati Falls to No. 11 Louisville

The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to No. 11-ranked Louisville, 14-1, on Tuesday night at UC Baseball Stadium.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to No. 11-ranked Louisville, 14-1, on Tuesday night at UC Baseball Stadium.

Redshirt juniors Kameron Guidry and Ryan Nicholson each recorded two hits for the Bearcats, including a pair of doubles.

Cincinnati used six pitchers in the game. Freshman starter Tommy Boba (1-1) took the loss in two innings of work. Redshirt junior Alex Shea and senior Mitch White each pitched scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

The Bearcats were held to five hits and stranded 10 runners in the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisville struck first on a solo shot to right field in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Landyn Vidourek notched a lead-off single up the middle and stole second. Josh Hegemann followed with a walk to put runners on first and second, but the Cardinals managed to end the threat. 

Louisville scored five runs on five hits, including a three-run homer, in the top of the second. The Cardinals padded their lead with a three-run shot in the third. Cincinnati called upon Shea in the fourth inning. He provided the Bearcats' first scoreless frame, allowing one hit while striking out one batter.

The Bearcats got on the board in the home half of the fourth. Alec Jones drew a lead-off walk, Guidry singled to center field and Brooks was walked to load the bases with one out. Kyle Schupmann provided a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in the Bearcats' lone run of the game. Vidourek followed with a walk, but the Bearcats left the bases loaded to end the inning.

Louisville plated four runs on two hits in the top of the fifth. They added a solo home run in the sixth for the eventual 14-1 final score.
