CINCINNATI -- Grace Wehland scored the tying goal with 33 seconds left, then the winner in the first overtime (both assisted by Lindsay Durkota), and the Cincinnati lacrosse team defeated Davidson, 13-12, on Tuesday evening.

Both of the final goals came on woman-up scenarios, with Durkota positioned behind the net and feeding it back in front to Wehland for a one-timer. The one in regulation hit twice inside the posts but crossed the line. Durkota had a limited role in five matches this season after missing last year due to injury, and she had one assist her whole career prior.

"We can't play emotionally, and we have to play disciplined," head coach Gina Thomas said. "That's what the game was with a lot of up and down. I kept telling the kids that it doesn't have to be pretty. We have to stay fundamentally sound and find a way to win. I'm so happy Ashley Lapp made the saves, Tori Accardo came up with a big caused turnover at the end of the game, and Lindsay Durkota (added the assists), and those are two kids that don't get a ton of minutes but were ready when their numbers were called."

Lauren Ottensmeyer's free-position goal at 12:53 in the second quarter marked the first consecutive goals by either team at 6-5. The Bearcats had initially tied it with one second on the clock as Elizabeth Murphy connected from inside the top post. Ottensmeyer ultimately finished with her second-straight hat trick and fifth of the season. Murphy and Wehland scored twice, and Julie Rose and Mia Federovich added one as well.

Freshman Camryn Callaghan scored four more goals for her 31st of the season. She entered the day third nationally in goals and points. Dani Mlkvy also tallied five of the team's 11 draw controls, giving her 60 on the year after also entering as the league leader.

This was the second time in program history that Cincinnati played back-to-back overtime contests (other was in 2010). UC not only avenged its heartbreaker against Ohio State last week, but also a 15-4 defeat at Davidson last season. The Wildcats entered the day 29-10 since COVID, including a 12-4 mark in the Atlantic 10.

UC (5-2) now looks to build off its momentum with two Michigan matches this week, first battling Central Michigan on Friday at 4 p.m.
