RICHMOND, Ky. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team scored seven runs in the eighth inning to rally past Eastern Kentucky, 10-5, on Wednesday at Earle Combs Stadium.
The Bearcats won their fifth consecutive game to improve to 7-6 on the season.
Redshirt junior designated hitter Alec Jones went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson was 1-for-2 with a career-high-tying three walks while sophomore outfielder Kerrington Cross finished 2-for-2 with a home run.
The Bearcats used five pitchers in the game. Redshirt junior Zach Segal (2-0) earned his second win of the season. He struck out two of the seven batters he faced over two shutout innings.

Cincinnati fell behind Eastern Kentucky in the second inning when the Colonels hit a two-run homer. EKU added a pair of runs in the third inning to lead 4-0.
Nicholson drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth. Jones singled to center field and Cole Harting laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third.
With one out, Lauden Brooks singled to left field to drive in UC's first run of the night. Jones raced home on a throwing error and Kameron Guidry drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt to make it a one-run game at 4-3.
Freshman Griffin Hugus came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the fourth and struck out four batters over two shutout innings.
EKU added another run in the sixth after single to left center to extend its advantage to 5-3.
The Bearcats sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on six hits in the top of the eighth inning.
With no outs, Cincinnati collected five straight hits. Cross stepped into the batter's box and belted a pinch-hit home run to left field. CJ Dean and Nicholson followed with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners.
Jones hit his second double of the season to right center, driving in two runs to put the Bearcats in front, 6-5.
Harting then singled to left center and advanced to third after two wild pitches. Guidry was walked and Kory Klingenbeck reached on a throwing error to bring home Harting.
After Guidry scored on a wild pitch, Kyle Schupmann provided a sacrifice fly to plate Klingenbeck for the eventual 10-5 final.
