CINCINNATI -- The No. 36 Cincinnati men's golf team is prepped for its final tournament before the AAC Championships as it takes part in the familiar Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., this week.
The three-day event commences Monday from the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The field features Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Mercer, No. 20 Ole Miss, No. 39 Liberty, No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 16 Mississippi State, No. 44 North Florida, Furman, Middle Tennessee, Northern Illinois, Wofford and Ball State.
The Bearcats have also won each of their last two three-day tournaments: the Dorado Beach Collegiate (Feb. 26-28) and Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 9-11).
Cincinnati will send out Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich, Ryan Ford, William McDonald and Rylan Wotherspoon for its scorecard, while Wyatt Plattner competes individually.
Gingerich and Jean each played this course last season, with Gingerich posting the team's second-best score at 1-under 212 to tie for 24th. UC finished sixth out of 15. The Bearcats competed there in 2019 as well, but the 2020 event was canceled.
Jean, with seven top-20 finishes, leads UC with a 69.53 stroke average, and Gingerich is second at 70.46.
Ford (72.21) is coming off his second AAC Golfer of the Week honor, the first freshman to claim multiple in-season awards since 2018-19. His school-record-tying 8-under 64 in the first round last week helped him to a third-place finish and one stroke off the tourney title. He was ahead of 15 top-100 golfers as well in an 18-team field that had nine top-50 teams.
Wotherspoon has been solid lately as well, finishing 2-under at the Mossy Oak Collegiate and tied for 13th at 2-over 212 at the Sea Island event prior. He holds a 71.46 stroke average. McDonald is at 71.96.
