FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team posted an even-par 284, providing a second-straight improved round, to finish ninth at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
No. 1 Vanderbilt, the tournament host, claimed the title by 23 strokes. The field featured four top-20 teams and three others in the top-44. This was Cincinnati's third tournament saving its best round for last.
"We played better today than we did the previous two rounds, but we still have to clean some things up before we head to the conference championship," head coach Doug Martin said. "I'm really proud of this team as we just completed the best regular season in school history. Now, it's time to prepare for the postseason. Our goal is to prepare physically and mentally for what's next."
William McDonald had a 1-under 70 to tie for 18th and serve as UC's top performer for the second time. It was also his third top-20 finish, with each of those coming this spring. Sam Jean's 68 was the team's lowest of the event, allowing him to tie for 35th, as well as his lowest round since the Dorado Beach Collegiate in February. He now has a team-high 16 rounds in the 60s.
Ty Gingerich (46th) and Ryan Ford (58th) rounded out the scorecard, followed by Rylan Wotherspoon. Ford's 72 was a five-stroke jump from Tuesday.
The No. 36 Bearcats now look ahead to the AAC Championships in Belleair, Fla. from April 21-23, and are the top-ranked AAC Golfstat team at this moment.
