Two Cincinnati Records Fall at Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE, Fla.— Seniors Leonie Troeger (javelin) and Fred Moudani (shot put) each broke University of Cincinnati track and field records as the Bearcats recorded double-digit (12) UC all-time top 10 marks at the Tom Jones Memorial meet in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla.— Seniors Leonie Troeger (javelin) and Fred Moudani (shot put) each broke University of Cincinnati track and field records as the Bearcats recorded double-digit (12) UC all-time top 10 marks at the Tom Jones Memorial meet in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday.
 
Troeger broke her own school record javelin throw with a mark of 53.43m/175'3".The Berlin, Germany, native bested her previous record by one foot and placed second overall in the event. Her throw is currently ranked inside the top 20 nationally and first in the American Athletic Conference. 
 
For the second straight meet, Moudani broke the Cincinnati outdoor shot put record with a throw of 19.35m/63'6", besting his previous record mark by .04 meters. Moudani now holds both the indoor and outdoor Cincinnati shot put records.
 
The Savigny-Le-Temple, France, native placed fourth overall in the invitational shot put section with his record mark. He is now currently ranked sixth in the NCAA East Region and 12th in the nation. His throw is also first in the AAC.
 
Over the course of the two-day meet, the Bearcats recorded 12 UC all-time top 10 marks and three event wins.
 
Senior Taylor Beard took home first place in the women's invitational high jump section clearing a height of 1.84m/6'0.5". Her new outdoor personal best moved her to third all-time in the UC record book. 
 
The All-American's mark is currently the fifth-best bar clearance in the nation and leads the AAC.
 
Graduate student Nyile Facey and senior Victoria Abunaw each recorded UC all-time top 10 times in the women's 400m hurdles. Facey ran a 59.61, the second-fastest time in program history and Abunaw recorded the ninth-fastest 400-meter hurdle in school history, 1:02.19.
 
Facey followed her 400-meter hurdle performance by recording the fifth fastest 100m hurdle time in program history with a time of 13.52 seconds.
 
Sophomore Korbin Spencer placed first overall in the men's discus with a mark of 54.04m/177'3". This marks Spencer's third discus event win of the season.
 
Senior Rylee Penn had a big weekend finishing first overall in the women's 1,500-meter with a time of 4:13.76. The Corona, Calif., native also ran the third-fastest 800-meter in program history (2:05.57), placing 10th overall in the event.
 
Fellow senior Carmen Licht also recorded a UC all-time top 10 mark in the women's 800-meter. She finished the race with a time of 2:07.72, the fourth fastest in school history.
 
Graduate student Keco Morrison moved to fifth all-time in UC 400m top 10 list after he recorded a time of 46.38 and placed 21st overall in the race.
 
Junior Tyler Wirth ran his way into the UC record book after he recorded the seventh-fastest 800m in program history with a time of 1:50.18. He placed 21st overall in the race.

The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action next weekend as the teams will take a trip north to compete in the Jessie Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The meet will begin Friday, April 21 and conclude Saturday, April 22.
