HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Cincinnati withstood a fast James Madison start and fought through the middle of the day, but the No. 4 Dukes held off the rally for a 17-8 win on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Bearcats' third ranked contest of the season, previously facing No. 19 Michigan and No. 8 Florida on the road as well.

JMU, winners of 14-straight, scored three times in the first two minutes and led 7-1 after the period. The Bearcats fought back in the second quarter. Peyton Mottice's quick tap off Ava Goeller's pass was her first goal of the year, as well as her first shot since having two in back-to-back games against Vanderbilt (March 18) and Butler (March 22). It was her 38th career goal.

Dani Mlkvy entered the day tied with her sister, Sam, for the school's single-season draw control record at 97, and her three gave her sole possession of that title.

Sophomore Kylie Gioia's four goals were a career-high, with the final one beating the third-quarter clock. The ball was juggled by several people in the middle, just outside the crease, before she snagged it and snapped it into the back of the net. Her four hat tricks this year have all come in the last six contests.

Freshman Sophia Lymberis notched her first-career goal early in the fourth as she scooped Camryn Callaghan's saved free-position shot and sent it home, in what was also her first attempt of the year, cutting the deficit to 12-7 with 13:52 left. Fellow rookie Mia Federovich added her fourth goal of the season in the waning seconds as Camryn Callaghan notched her third assist of the day.

Cincinnati (10-6, 2-3 AAC) returns home Saturday for Senior Day and its regular-season finale against Old Dominion (12 p.m.), which features key AAC Championships stakes.
