CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team returns home for a midweek tilt against Indiana on Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. inside UC Baseball Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on BearcatStats.com.
Wednesday marks the first installment of a four-game homestand, as the Bearcats will host Tulane for a three-game series on April 21-23.
Last time out, the Bearcats were swept in a three-game series by then-No. 9 ECU. Sophomore two-way player Tommy O'Connor batted .357 (5-for-14) with five RBI in four starts last week. He recorded home runs in back-to-back games against Miami (OH) and ECU.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson has a .290 average (40-for-138) with nine home runs, 23 RBI and 23 runs scored in 35 starts. He leads the club in hits (40), home runs (9), doubles (9) and multi-hit games (12). He has 97 RBI, 95 runs scored and 26 home runs in 147 career games played.
Redshirt junior Kameron Guidry leads the team in RBI (25) and multi-RBI games (8). Freshman Landyn Vidourek is first on the club in walks (21), second in hits (30) and tied for third in stolen bases (8-12).
Cincinnati ranks first in the conference and 52nd nationally in base on balls with 183 walks drawn. UC also sits first in the league in stolen bases (72) and stolen bases per game (1.95) – good for 20th and 25th nationally. The Bearcats have stolen nine bases – one shy of the program record – twice this season, most recently against Memphis (April 8).
On the mound, redshirt junior Chase Hopewell leads the staff in starts (9), innings pitched (42.0) and strikeouts (34). He is eight strikeouts away from 100 in his career. Senior Jackson Murphy leads the staff in wins (3) and is tied for second in appearances (14). He is tied for ninth all-time at UC with 70 career appearances.
UC and Indiana have met 31 times in program history, with IU leading the all-time series 19-12. The Bearcats are looking to snap a three-game losing streak to the Hoosiers. UC's last victory came on March 13, 2019, when the Bearcats defeated the Hoosiers 7-5 in Cincinnati.
