CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team continues its homestand with a three-game series against Tulane this weekend. Due to expected inclement weather, the series will now kick off at 1 p.m. on Friday on ESPN+.
Last time out, the Bearcats (15-23, 3-6 AAC) fell to Big Ten foe Indiana, 11-9, on Wednesday night inside UC Baseball Stadium. UC rallied from a seven-run deficit and had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth before the Hoosiers escaped with the win.
Sophomore Kerrington Cross finished 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI to go along with a career-high two doubles and one run scored. He is second on the team in doubles (7) and runs scored (23) and third in RBI (21) and hits (29). In AAC play, he is batting .280 batting average (7-for-25) with three doubles, six runs scored and four stolen bases.
Redshirt junior Kameron Guidry leads the team in RBI (27), runs scored (24) and multi-RBI games (9). He has 20 RBIs in his last 17 games played. Sophomore two-way player Tommy O'Connor batted .357 (5-for-14) with five RBI in four starts last week. He recorded home runs in back-to-back games against Miami (OH) on April 11 and ECU on April 14.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson has a .284 average (40-for-141) with nine home runs, 23 RBI and 23 runs scored in 36 starts. He leads the club in hits (40), home runs (9), doubles (9) and multi-hit games (12). He has 97 RBI, 95 runs scored and 26 home runs in 147 career games played.
Cincinnati ranks first in the conference and 57th nationally in base on balls with 188 walks drawn. UC also sits first in the league in stolen bases (73) and stolen bases per game (1.92) – good for 24th and 25th nationally.
On the mound, redshirt junior Chase Hopewell leads the staff in starts (9), innings pitched (42.0) and strikeouts (34). He is eight strikeouts away from 100 in his career. Sophomore Garrett Harker boasts a 3.48 ERA in league action with a team-high 12 strikeouts in three appearances. He is second on the staff with 33 total strikeouts on the year.
UC and Tulane have met 67 times in program history, with Tulane leading the all-time series 47-20. The Bearcats are 9-2 in their last 11 meetings with the Green Wave, including a stretch of nine straight.
The two teams last met in the 2022 AAC Championships in Clearwater, Fla. The Bearcats won 8-1 in the first round but were eliminated by the Green Wave 13-5 in the double elimination matchup.
UC took two of three on the road to win the regular season series against Tulane on May 6-7, 2022. The Bearcats won the opener, 3-2 (11) and finale, 8-7. The Green Wave won the middle game, 4-3.
