CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team stormed back from a six-run deficit to win its series opener against Tulane, 12-9, on Friday afternoon inside UC Baseball Stadium.
The Bearcats scored seven runs in the bottom of the second while junior Cole Harting's 25th career home run was the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Redshirt junior Kameron Guidry continued his hot hitting for the Bearcats, going 2-for-5 with four RBI and two extra-base hits. He belted a three-run homer to right field in the second.
Redshirt junior Alec Jones finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored and a stolen base while redshirt junior Ryan Nicholson tied his career high with two doubles to go along with an RBI and one run scored. Sophomore Kerrington Cross added a home run to finish 2-for-5 with three runs scored. The Bearcats improve to 6-1 when hitting three-or-more home runs in a game.
Freshman Chase Horst (2-3) earned the win in 2.1 shutout innings in relief while senior Jackson Murphy picked up his first career save.
Cincinnati scored 12 runs on 13 hits and left six runners on base while the Green Wave scored nine runs on 13 hits and stranded nine baserunners.

Cincinnati fell behind in the first inning when Tulane belted a three-run homer to right center against starter Garrett Harker. The Green Wave added another three-run shot in the top of the second.
The Bearcats stormed back in the home half with seven runs on five hits and two errors. Harting reached on an error, Griffin Hugus singled through the left side and CJ Dean reached on a bunt to load the bases for Lauden Brooks who delivered an RBI single up the middle. Jones followed with a one-out, two-run single through the left side. Tommy O'Connor then drew a walk to bring up Nicholson who doubled to right center to plate another run. Guidry stepped into the batter's box and smacked a three-run homer to right field to put UC in front, 7-6.
After Cross homered in the bottom of the fourth, Tulane responded with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to even the score at 8-8.
Harting provided the go-ahead home run in the home half of the fifth – a lead-off, solo shot to left field. It was his sixth home run of the year and 25th of his career.
The Bearcats padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Brooks drew a lead-off walk, advanced to third on a single from Cross and raced home on a throwing error. Guidry then delivered a two-out RBI double down the left field line to make it 12-8.
Tulane threatened in the top of the ninth with runners on first and third with one out. Murphy came out of the bullpen and retired the next two batters to earn the save.
