Ford notched a team-best six birdies (including four in a six-hole span on the back nine) while Ty Gingerich had five. Ford entered the week with five-straight tournaments in which his best round came at the start.
Rylan Wotherspoon carded an even-70 to tie for 12th, and he has two top-20 finishes this season. Gingerich, Sam Jean and William McDonald are all 25th with a 3-over 73.
Cincinnati looks to replicate its last outing in Tennessee, where it improved its score each round after the opener.
