MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to Memphis in the middle game of the series, 6-2, on Friday night in Memphis, Tenn.
The Bearcats and Tigers will play the rubber game on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
Redshirt junior starter Chase Hopewell (1-3) allowed four runs on four hits in 4.2 innings. He tied his season-high with six strikeouts in the game. Sophomore reliever Garrett Harker struck out four batters in two shutout innings. For Memphis, starter Dalton Fowler (3-3) scattered just two hits and struck out 13 batters in seven innings.
Redshirt junior first baseman Ryan Nicholson went 2-for-4 with his seventh home run of the season. The two-run shot came in the ninth inning. Freshman Landyn Vidourek finished 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base.

In a pitcher's duel to start, Hopewell allowed just four base runners over the first four innings.
In the top of the fifth, Kameron Guidry drew a one-out walk and Josh Hegemann reached on a fielding error. The pair each stole a base to put runners in scoring position, but the Bearcats were unable to capitalize.
Memphis' Anthony Hansen knocked in the first runs of the game with a two-run single to center field in home half of the fifth. The Tigers scored another two runs on a base hit up the middle to make it 4-0.
The Tigers padded their lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. Nicholson smashed a two-run homer to right field in the top of the ninth to account for the 6-2 final score.
