CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team continues its homestand with a midweek, non-conference game against crosstown rival Xavier on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at UC Baseball Stadium.

Last time out, Cincinnati was swept in a three-game series by No. 14-ranked East Carolina over the weekend. The Bearcats now sit tied for fourth in the American Athletic Conference with two series still to play.

Sophomore Sean Springer made three starts at second base this past weekend where he totaled 23 assists on defense. He had a career-high 11 assists on Saturday, which matches the most in a single game by a Division I player since the 2021 season.

Junior outfielder Josh Hegemann leads the team with a .337 average (28-for-83) in 33 games played. He is on a five-game hitting streak and is batting .632 during that stretch (12-for-19).

Redshirt junior Ryan Nicholson has a .287 average (51-for-178) with 12 home runs, 33 RBI and 34 runs scored in 45 starts. He leads the club in hits (51), home runs (12), doubles (11) and multi-hit games (15) and is second on the team in RBI (33) and multi-RBI games (10).

Nicholson hit his 12th homer of the season against ECU in the series finale. The redshirt junior slugger now sits 11th all-time at UC with 29 career home runs. He is one homer away from a 10th-place tie with Matt Primack (1993-96) with 30.

Sophomore two-way player Tommy O'Connor has a .375 average (12-for-32) in conference play with a .813 slugging percentage and .512 on-base percentage. He smashed his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot that went 468 feet over the right field wall at 114 mph off the bat, against ECU on Friday.

Cincinnati ranks first in the conference and 61st nationally in base on balls with 234 walks drawn. UC also sits first in the league in stolen bases (92) and stolen bases per game (1.96) – good for 26th and 32nd nationally. The Bearcats have six players with eight-or-more stolen bases this season, led by Lauden Brooks who is 14-of-15 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound, senior reliever Mitch White retired all 13 batters he faced in a career-long 4.1 innings in relief against ECU on Sunday. He struck out three batters, forced three fly outs and induced seven ground outs.

UC has an all-time record of 100-62-1 against Xavier. The 100 victories are the most against any opponent in program history. The Bearcats have 100 wins against Xavier, 87 victories against Dayton and 86 against Louisville.

Cincinnati snapped a four-game losing skid to the Musketeers with a 19-6 win earlier this season on March 22. The Bearcats hit four home runs in the victory, including a pair of grand slams from Kameron Guidry and Kory Klingenbeck in the first two innings.
