CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team wraps up the home portion of its 2023 schedule with a midweek contest against Georgetown on Tuesday for Education Day. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. on ESPN+.
Cincinnati (22-29, 9-12 AAC) sits fifth in the American Athletic Conference with one series left to play. The Bearcats will travel to Houston for a three-game series this weekend, beginning Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Schroeder Park.
Last time out, UC dropped two of three in a home series against UCF over the weekend. The Bearcats defeated the Knights, 13-3 (7), in the opener before falling in the next two games, 12-4 and 9-7.
Redshirt sophomore Kerrington Cross received National Player of the Week recognition from Collegiate Baseball on Monday. He batted .375 (6-for-16) in four starts last week with eight RBI, six runs scored and five extra-base hits. He finished with a .412 on-base percentage and 1.188 slugging percentage.
Cross belted four home runs in Cincinnati's three-game series against UCF. He is the first Bearcat to hit a home run in three straight games since teammate Ryan Nicholson did so at Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 19-20, 2022. He is currently batting .311 (23-for-74) in conference games with five homers, five doubles and 25 runs scored.
Redshirt junior Ryan Nicholson has a .295 average (56-for-190) with 12 home runs, 33 RBI and 37 runs scored in 48 starts. He leads the club in hits (56), home runs (12), doubles (15) and multi-hit games (17) and is second on the team in RBI (33) and multi-RBI games (10).
Sophomore two-way player Tommy O'Connor has a .390 average (16-for-41) in conference play with a .902 slugging percentage and .537 on-base percentage. He has five home runs in just 12 AAC games.
On the mound, sophomore Garrett Harker earned his first win of the season in the series opener against UCF on Friday. He allowed three runs on four hits and struck out five batters with four walks in five innings.
Cincinnati and Georgetown have met only 19 times in program history, with UC leading the all-time series 14-5. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since 2012 when the Hoyas defeated the Bearcats, 15-4, on May 19 in Cincinnati.
