Trio of Bearcats Earn Baseball All-Conference Accolades

University of Cincinnati redshirt sophomore Kerrington Cross was named Second Team All-American Athletic Conference, while freshmen Griffin Hugus and Chase Horst were selected to the AAC Freshman All-Conference Team.

CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati redshirt sophomore Kerrington Cross was named Second Team All-American Athletic Conference, while freshmen Griffin Hugus and Chase Horst were selected to the AAC Freshman All-Conference Team.
 
Cross, a utility player from Brownsburg, Ind., hit .268 (49-for-183) with 10 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 35 RBI and 47 runs scored in 52 games with 46 starts. He led the club in runs scored (47) and sacrifice hits (4), was second in doubles (10) and third in home runs (8) and RBI (35). 
 
Cross had at least one hit in 32 games and recorded 14 multi-hit games during the regular season. He collected Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week recognition on May 15 for his four-home run performance in a series versus UCF. 
 
Hugus, a two-way player from Wellington, Fla., finished the season with a .237 average (28-for-118) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored in 36 games played. 
 
Hugus made 18 appearances on the mound with a 1-2 record and two saves. He tied for second on the staff in saves (2) and was fifth in appearances (18). He was named to the AAC weekly honor roll on April 10 after earning his first career win in his first collegiate start against Memphis.
 
Horst, a left-handed pitcher from Lititz, Pa., finished the season with a 3-3 record and a 5.28 ERA. He tied for first on the team in wins (3), was second in strikeouts (46) and ERA (5.28), third in starts (8) and fifth in innings pitched (44.1). He had a 1.88 ERA in games won by the Bearcats.
 
Horst held a 2-1 record and a 4.50 ERA in 10 conference appearances. He didn't allow a run in five of those outings. 
 
Cincinnati will enter the 2023 American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship as the fifth seed and face fourth-seeded UCF on Tuesday, May 23, with the first pitch scheduled for 9 a.m. at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.
