CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati lacrosse student-athletes Morgan Bates, Grace Hirschmann, Dani Mlkvy and Grace Wehland were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large team this week.
The four have moved on to Academic All-America voting. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 grade-point average at his/her current institution, which they have also attended for a full year. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women).
Bates (3.70 in finance) and Mlkvy (3.78 in speech language hearing science) graduated as two-time team captains. Bates played in 14 games for her hometown Bearcats, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Mlkvy's 114 draw controls were a single-season school record, and she earned First-Team All-AAC accolades for the second-straight year.
Wehland (3.85 in finance) earned a pair of AAC Attacker of the Week honors in her career. She scored 21 goals on 52 shots this season to go with nine caused turnovers, including scoring the overtime winner against Davidson.
Hirschmann (3.74 in marketing), the lone returner of the bunch, has appeared in all 35 games the last two seasons, starting 30 of them. Her 16 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers helped anchor UC's stout defense.
