JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— University of Cincinnati senior Fred Moudani-Likibi (shot put) punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the Bearcats competed on day one of the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Wednesday.
The Savigny-Le-Temple, France native, finished inside the Top 12 (sixth) with a throw of 19.56m (64'2.25") and punched his ticket out of the first round and onto his first ever outdoor national championship after just missing the cut last season.
The top 12 shot putters from both the East and West Regionals will go to Austin, Texas, to compete for the national title. Moudani-Likibi will look for similar results as he had during the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he earned First Team All-America honors.
Six other Bearcats finished their outdoor seasons on Wednesday.
Redshirt sophomore Naquille Harris missed qualifying for Friday's 100-meter quarterfinals by less than a tenth of a second. With the top three in each in each heat automatically qualifying for the quarterfinal, Harris finished fourth in his heat with a time of 10.31, right behind ECU's Royal Burris (10.30).
Junior Giovanni Gutierrez competed in the men's shot put with Moudani-Likibi and finished 32nd (17.66m) overall.
Making his second appearance at the NCAA East First Round, senior Tyler Wirth closed his season by finishing 36th in the men's 1,500m (3:48.44).
Senior Austin Goolsby dawned the red and black for the final time of his career. In his second appearance at the East First Round, he finished 39th in the men's pole vault after clearing a bar of 4.90m (16'0.75").
Graduate transfer Keco Morrison ran in the men's 400-meter dash, where he finished 40th (47.90) overall.
In the men's 10,000m semifinal, graduate student Milo Greder closed out his career as he finished 34th (30:31:83) overall.
