JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— University of Cincinnati junior Leonie Troeger (javelin) and sophomore Abby Knouff (pole vault) punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the Bearcats' track and field teams competed on day two of the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday.

Troeger, a Berlin, Germany, native, finished second in the region with a throw of 54.89m (180'1") and advanced out of the first round and onto her second outdoor national championship for the second straight season. Her second-place finish is also her best finish at the East First Round.

The top 12 javelin throwers from both the East and West Regionals will go to Austin, Texas, to compete for the national title. Troeger will look to improve on last year's performance, where she finished 21st overall.

In her second appearance at East Regional, Knouff placed inside the top 12 in the women's pole vault (10th) to advance to her first outdoor national championships. She cleared a bar height of 4.12m (13'6.25") to achieve the feat.

Knouff is now the third Bearcat to punch their ticket to Austin, joining Troeger and senior Fred Moudani-Likibi (shot put).

Graduate student Nyile Facey had a busy day on the track as she advanced to the women's 100-meter hurdles after placing second in her heat with a time of 13.11 seconds. The 100-meter hurdle quarterfinal will begin at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.

A little over two hours later in the night, the Tampa, Fla., native competed in the women's 400m hurdles where she finished 40th with a time of 1:00.70.

Redshirt senior Rylee Penn advanced to the 1500-meter quarterfinals after running the second fastest time in the round (4:17.60). Penn finished second overall her heat.  The 1500m quarterfinals will be held on Friday, beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Seniors Hannah Jackson and Alexandria Hunter both closed their season out in the women's hammer throw. Jackson finished 26th with a throw of 58.01m (190'01"), while Hunter placed 35th with a throw of 56.93m (186'9"). Both made their first appearance at the East First Round.
