CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field program placed eight student-athletes on the Academic All-District® Team, announced by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday.
Milo Greder, Tyler Wirth, Matt Hoak and Carlos Kouassi were selected for the men's team while Rylee Penn, Carmen Licht, Leonie Troeger and Jodie Pierce captured All-District accolades on the women's side.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50, be a sophomore academically, have a year-in-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Academic All-America voting will continue now until Wednesday, June 7.
Greder, a graduate student from Omaha, Neb., graduated this spring with a master's degree in sports administration. He boasts a 3.91 GPA and earned AAC All-Conference honors during the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. During the outdoor season, he won the AAC title in the 10,000m and qualified for the NCAA East First Round for the first time in his career.
Penn, a redshirt senior, earned a 4.00 GPA this past year while obtaining a master's degree in criminal justice. She was named 2023 AAC Women's Indoor Most Valuable Performer after winning conference titles in the women's mile, 3,000m and DMR. She holds four Cincinnati track and field records: outdoor 1,500-meter 800-meter, indoor mile and indoor 3,000-meter. The Corona, Calif., native was runner-up in the women's 6K at the AAC Cross Country Championships, earning All-Conference honors. Her second-place finish is the highest women's individual finish at the AAC Cross Country Championships in Bearcat history. She also qualified for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the women's 1500-meter.
Wirth, a senior, holds a GPA of 3.91 and is working towards a degree in architectural engineering. Wirth earned two AAC indoor conference titles in the mile and DMR this season. He also ran the first sub-four-minute mile in UC history (3:59.89). During the outdoor season, the Wallenpaupack, Penn., native won the AAC 1500-meter championship, earning him his first conference title.
A Berlin, Germany native, Troeger excelled in the classroom with a GPA of 3.65. The junior is pursuing a degree in marketing and information systems (double major) while being one of the best javelin throwers in the nation. Troeger broke her own javelin school record this season with a throw of 55.31m (181'5") and earned her first AAC javelin title. She will be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after placing second in the javelin at the East First Round.
Kouassi, a junior, boasts a GPA of 3.91 and plans to earn a degree in exercise science. He claimed his first conference title this outdoor season after winning the men's triple jump with a season-best mark of 15.37m (50' 5.25"). The Basel, Switzerland native made his first NCAA East First Round appearance this season as well.
Licht, a senior with a 3.81 GPA, graduated this spring with a degree in business administration. Licht was a member of the UC women's DMR team that won the conference title at the AAC Indoor Championships. Her new outdoor personal best 800-meter time of 2:07.72 moved her to fourth all-time in UC history.
Hoak, a senior, holds GPA of 3.80 and is working towards a degree in biomedical engineering. Hoak was a member of the UC record-setting DMR team that won the AAC indoor conference title. During the outdoor season, he placed fifth in the 1,500-meter at AAC Outdoor Championships.
Pierce, a junior from Fairborn, Ohio, is currently pursuing a degree in fashion design and has a 3.95 GPA. Pierce placed fourth overall in the women's 1,500-meter at the AAC Outdoor Championships. It is her best finish at a conference meet and the most points she has scored at a conference meet (7).
