The NCAA Postgraduate scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship of $10,000 are awarded three times a year, corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season, there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

Funke joins former Bearcat swimmer Din Selmanovic (2020) as the only UC student-athletes to earn the coveted scholarship. He graduated this past spring with a degree in Public Health and a minor in Integrative Health and Wellness, as well as earned a certificate in Yoga Studies. He plans to use the scholarship to attend medical school this fall.

Funke transferred to Cincinnati in the Fall of 2020 and has found nothing but success in the classroom as he made the Dean's List (3.40 semester GPA or higher) every semester since becoming a Bearcat. A three-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, he boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.88.

The Elkhorn, Neb., native excelled just as much in the pool as he did out of it. He currently holds the fifth-fastest 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.96) and the sixth-fastest 100-yard breaststroke (54.79) times in program history. He was also a part of the AAC Championship 200 medley relay team that earned a silver medal by recording the third-best 200-yard medley relay time (1:27.960) in program history.

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

All former student-athletes who earned an undergraduate degree from an NCAA member school are eligible to be nominated by that school for an NCAA graduate degree scholarship, regardless of when they received their undergraduate degree.
