Barnes Shines at USATF U20 Outdoor Championships

University of Cincinnati track and field freshman Lauren Ann Barnes led the way for the Bearcats at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., inside Hayward Field on Sunday.

EUGENE, ORE.— University of Cincinnati track and field freshman Lauren Ann Barnes led the way for the Bearcats at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., inside Hayward Field on Sunday.
 
Barnes placed third overall in the USATF U20 outdoor women's high jump championship after falling just short in a jump off for second place. In her first appearance at the championships, she cleared a bar height of 1.77m (5'9.75") to earn a bronze medal.
 
The Blue Ash, Ohio native's mark is a new life-time personal best and the eighth best bar clearance in program history.
 
Two other Bearcats also made the trip out to Hayward Field to compete in the senior section of the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships. Graduate student Nyile Facey placed 21st in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.54 and sophomore Annika Kinley competed in the women's high jump but did not place in the event (NH).
 
Former Bearcat Annette Echikunwoke placed fifth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 73.09m (239' 9"). She currently ranks seventh in the world in the women's hammer throw as she continues her bid to qualify for the Olympics.
