CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati rising sophomore attacker Camryn Callaghan earned a place on the USA U20 Lacrosse training team following this weekend's tryout in Sparks, Md.

The 42 players named to the training team (out of 99 at the event) come from high schools from 12 states and the District of Columbia and represent 20 colleges with their current enrollment or commitment. The U20 training team will be back at USA Lacrosse for a training camp in August and will compete at the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in October before the final roster is ultimately selected to represent the country at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China next summer.

Callaghan, an Upper Arlington, Ohio native was the AAC Freshman of the Year, joining Kylie Nause (2019) as UC's second in four years, as well as a First-Team honoree. She scored 56 goals to lead all freshmen nationally, as well as set a new UC rookie record. It also marked the third-most in program history. She tied the school-record with eight goals against eventual top-25 Marquette, in addition to five goals against Gardner-Webb, Robert Morris, Butler and Old Dominion, plus four each against Davidson and Vanderbilt. Callaghan had 12 hat tricks in all.

Head coach Gina Thomas, who is entering her 12th year at the helm, made the training team in 2005 and later played in the 2009 and 2013 World Cups.

Formerly a U19 event, World Lacrosse raised the age group to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. Amonte Hiller was the head coach for the 2019 team and helped lead the U.S. to its fifth gold medal in the event. The U.S won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019. Australia won the inaugural championship in 1995 and Canada won in 2015 with the U.S. finishing as the runner-up at those two events.

Can't put into words how proud I am of this kid! I felt like I made the team all over again! No better feeling than rocking that RWB! #❤️💙🤍🇺🇸 #BearcatsCompete 🖤❤️ pic.twitter.com/pLO8QuaDXg
