LEÓN, Mexico – University of Cincinnati women's basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather and USA Basketball earned a silver medal podium finish at the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in León, Mexico.

Merriweather was elevated to her first bench coach assignment for the event, serving as an assistant coach alongside South Dakota State head coach Aaron Johnston under Washington State head coach Kamie Ethridge, after previously serving as a court coach for the 2021 USA Women's U19 National Team Trails.

In its seventh contest over the nine-day event, USA fell to veteran-laden Brazil 69-58 in the gold medal game on Sunday at Domo de la Feria. USA boasted the event's youngest team with an average age of 20, highlighted by collegiate talent like LSU's Angel Reese and Tennessee's Rickea Jackson.

USA moved to 4-2 all-time in AmeriCup gold medal games and earned its second silver medal. USA has captured four Women's AmeriCup gold and two silver medals since the inaugural event in 1989, including consecutive titles in 2019 and 2021.
