CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati track and field freshman Lauren Ann Barnes is set to represent Team USA at the Pan American U20 Championships this weekend.
Barnes made the team after finishing third overall in the high jump at the USATF U20 Championships on July 9, clearing a personal-best bar height of 1.77m (5'9.75").
"It means a lot to be representing Team USA," Barnes said. "I think any athlete can appreciate competing at the highest level and to accomplish this dream that I have had since I was a little kid, competing for Team USA, is a blessing that I am super excited for."
The 2023 Pan American U20 Championships will be hosted August 4-6 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. This will be Barnes' first international appearance of her career.
The Blue Ash, Ohio native is coming off the best performance of her career at the USATF Championships where she set a new lifetime personal best and the eighth-best bar clearance in program history.
