MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico— University of Cincinnati high jumper Lauren Ann Barnes earned a bronze medal representing Team USA at the Pan-American U20 Championships inside Jose A. Figueroa Freire Stadium on Saturday.

The Blue Ash, Ohio native cleared three straight bars on her first attempt at each height, finishing with a mark of 1.65m (5'5") to achieve the feat. This was the incoming sophomore's first international appearance.

She is the first Bearcat to medal at the Pan-American U20 Championships since former Bearcat Caisja Chandler captured a gold medal as part of the  USA 4x100m team at the 2019 Pan-American U20 Championships.

Barnes qualified for the meet after finishing third overall in the high jump at the USATF U20 Championships on July 9, clearing a personal best bar height of 1.77m (5' 9.75").

Her performance this weekend caps off an outstanding freshman season, where she qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the high jump and currently holds the eighth best bar clearance height in program history (1.77m / 5' 9.75"),
