DAYTON, Ohio— Junior midfielder Fran Stables scored her first goal as a Bearcat, but Cincinnati fell 4-1 to Dayton on Sunday at Baujan Field.

"We were disappointed with today's outcome," head coach Erica Demers said. "We are still trying to figure out our identity and what we are going to be about this season. It's early, but you obviously don't want to let in four goals. I think those four goals came from individual mistakes instead of team mistakes. So, we have to take ownership of those moments and be better in the next game."

Stables, a Manchester, England native scored the Bearcats' lone goal of the game on a free kick from 20 yards out as she bent the ball over the Dayton wall drilling the top left corner in the 78th minute.

The Bearcats had multiple good looks throughout the match but had only one find its way to the back of the net.

The team would finish the game with a season-high nine shots (four on goal), as nine different Bearcats each recorded a shot. Cincinnati also led the game with eight corners to Dayton's five.

The Bearcats were held in check throughout the first half. The Flyers put up seven shots in the half as two found the back of the net.

Dayton's Noel Blain placed one right above keeper Anna Rexford's outstretched arms to score the game's first goal in the 18th minute. Later, her teammate Madison Wilson would score off a loose ball in front of the goal. The Bearcats would head to the locker at half down, 2-0.

Facing the deficit, Cincinnati came out of the break more aggressive on offense, generating eight shots in the half, including Stables' free kick goal.

The Flyers would answer Stables' score one minute later in the 79th minute to record their fourth and final goal of the night.

Graduate student Ashley Barron led the team in minutes played (82 min) for the second straight game. The Toledo, Ohio native has played 5,588 minutes in her career and is only 181 minutes away from cracking the UC all-time top ten list.
