CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati soccer team welcomes Bowling Green to Gettler Stadium for its home opener on Thursday.
The match will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be the first of a three-game homestand for the Bearcats. The match was initially scheduled for 6 p.m. but was pushed back due to weather concerns.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+, a subscription to the streaming service is required to watch the game. Fans can also follow along with live stats found here.
All UC home soccer games are free for fans to attend. Fans looking to attend Thursday are encouraged to wear BLACK to the game and will have the chance to enter a raffle contest for a Bearcats back-to-school care package.
Thursday's match will be the first of three straight home matches for the Bearcats. UC will host Illinois State on Sunday, Aug. 27 (1 p.m.) and Central Michigan on Thursday, Aug. 31 (7 p.m.).
// THE MATCH UP
The match will be the sixth meeting between the two programs and the third time the game will be played in Cincinnati. The Bearcats are undefeated at home against Bowling Green (2-0-0) and lead the overall series 3-1-1. The teams squared off against each other last season, which ended in a 1-1 draw in Bowling Green. The last time the Bearcats hosted the match was in 2008 when UC claimed a decisive 3-1 victory over the Falcons.
Fun Fact: Cincinnati currently holds a record of 85-25-8 against teams from the state of Ohio. This season the Bearcats are 0-1 against Ohio-based schools after falling to Dayton in the team's previous game. A win against the Falcons would give the Bearcats their first win over an Ohio-based school since 2018.
// LAST TIME OUT
The Bearcats fell on the road against Dayton, 4-1, on Aug. 20, to close their season-opening road trip. Junior transfer Fran Stables notched her first career goal as a Bearcat on a free kick from outside the box.
// SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Bowling Green began its 2023 campaign like the Bearcats did, facing Michigan State for its season opener. BGSU would fall to Michigan State, 3-1, as forward Lizzie Bultynck scored the team's lone goal. The Falcons are coached by Jimmy Walker, who holds a career record of 166-90-24 in 16 seasons of coaching. Walker is in his fourth season as the head coach of Bowling Green (26-14-9).
// HOME DEBUT SUCCESS
The Bearcats hold a record of 28-12-3 in season home-opening matches. Cincinnati won last year's home opener against Northern Kentucky, 2-0. It was the first time since 2018 that the Bearcats won their first home match of the season. That win would kick start an impeccable home performance last season, as the team went 7-0-2 during the regular season at Getter Stadium.
