CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team secured its first win of the 2023 season after defeating Alabama State in straight sets on Friday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
Cincinnati outhit Alabama State .250 to .114, totaling 43 kills on 108 swings.
The Bearcats were led by a trio of newcomers, Katelyn Lefler, Jadyn Bauss and Carly Skrabak. Bauss had a team-high 11 kills and two aces while Lefler dished out 35 assists to go along with six digs. Skrabak steadied the defense with 10 digs as the team's starting libero.
Redshirt sophomore Liga Williams hit a team-high .538 with eight kills and shared a team-high three blocks with junior Abby Walker. Sophomore Julie Wittekind added 10 digs on defense.

SET 1 | Cincinnati went on a 6-0 scoring run to own a 14-8 lead and never looked back, taking the opening set 25-17. Shaye Eggleston led the way with a team-high four kills in the set, hitting .571. As a team, UC had 15 kills at a .294 clip in the opening set.
SET 2 | UC trailed early before ripping off a 7-1 run to tie the set at 17-17. A kill from Carly Glendinning, followed by a service ace from Bauss gave UC its first lead, 20-19. The Bearcats scored the final five points of the set to win, 25-20.
SET 3 | Cincinnati rattled off an early 11-1 run to force an Alabama State timeout at 11-3. The Bearcats cruised to the set win, 25-18, and victory, 3-0. UC had match highs in kills (17), assists (17) and digs (22) in the stanza.
