Last time out, Cincinnati defeated Bowling Green (1-0) in its home opener. The Bearcats match against Illinois State on Aug. 27 was canceled due to the lack of available players for the Redbirds.
// THE MATCH UP
The match will be the sixth meeting between the two programs and the third time the game will be played in Cincinnati. It is also the first match between the two schools in 18 years. The Bearcats lead the overall series 4-1-0 and are currently tied with the Chippewas 1-1 when the match is played at Gettler Stadium. The last time the teams squared off against each other was in 2005 when the Bearcats claimed a 1-0 victory in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. It has been 20 years since the match was last played in Gettler (9/05/03). That match went into double overtime as CMU won 2-1.
Fun Fact: During the 1982 season, the Bearcats put on one of the most explosive offensive performances in program history as Cincinnati defeated Central Michigan 15-0 (10/3/82). The 15 goals are the most-ever scored in a single home game in program history. Cincinnati tied the mark just three days later beating Miami (Ohio) 15-0 in Nippert Stadium (10/6/82).
// LAST TIME OUT
The Bearcats defeated Bowling Green 1-0, in their season home opener. Sophomore midfielder/forward Megan Smith scored the game's only goal just 1:40 into the match. Her goal was the 11th-fastest goal scored to begin a match in program history.
Anna Rexford had a night to remember, recording a career-high seven saves in the frame for her first clean sheet of the season. The scoreless outing marked Rexford's 12th career shutout, breaking a three-way tie with former Bearcat goalkeepers Julie McCaffrey (1994-95) and Julie Williams (1982-84) for the eighth-most shutouts in program history.
Rexford also became the seventh Bearcat in program history to accumulate 20 career wins. She now boasts a career record of 20-17-11.
